Joined from Cross Keys in 1963 where he had Welsh Trial and played 137 times scoring 71t. Played fly half and full back in school.

Played for Newport RFC 1963-64 to 1969-70. His cross kick helped set up position for Uzzell's drop goal vs 1963 All Blacks. Scored hatrick vs Watsonians in 1964. Set club record with Peter Rees in 1967-68 (20/47 tries). Scored 27 tries in 1968-69. 26 Welsh Caps 1964-70 and toured Australia / NZ with 1966 Lions and South Africa (1964) and Australia (1969) with Wales. One of proudest moments was scoring a 75yd try against France 1996 with 12 mins to go to help Wales win 9 v 8 and retain International Championship.

Left Newport in 1970 after dispute about training to join Cardiff 1969-70 for whom he made 34 appearances scoring 17tries. Replaced Newport's Laurie Daniel to win 25th and 26th caps (vs England & Ireland Feb/Mar 1970).

Appointed Newport's first ever Team Manager in November 1989.
