 Dr Tom Smyth (forward). Joined Newport in 1908-09 having a post at Royal Gwent Hospital. Fast and great dribbler. Newport's first "real" Irishman to play for Ireland (other than Purdon and Jordan in 1884!) British Lion captain 1910 South Africa. Won 10 caps (1 as capt) scoring 2t 1908-1912 6 from Malone and 4 from Newport. From 1908-09-1909-10.
