Educated Wyecliffe College. Joined Newport 1954-55 having obtained Cambridge Blue at outside half in 1952 and 1953 and played at Rodney Parade until 1957-58 season. Being awarded a "Blue" was his proudest moment as it was a first step on the ladder to playing for Newport then Wales. Switched to centre as Roy Burnett was playing outside half. Played a major part in Newport winning 1955-56 Welsh Club Championship (with Garfield Owen, Ken Jones, Onllwyn Brace, Bryn Meredith and Leighton Jenkins). All played in 4 Welsh games and Wales won the five-nations championship. Made debut for Wales vs England at Twickenham in January 1956 (won 3 v 8). Joined Cardiff in March 1959 playing against Newport at Cardiff on after failing to hold a regular place. Later captained Cardiff Athletic (the"Rags").
