Born 2 March 1886, Pontypool. One of 4 brothers - David ?Ponty? Phillips, James ?Tuan? Phillips John ?Jack? Phillips and the lesser known Edmund. All played for Pontypool. Jack was best known and called the ?Prince of Centres?. He played for Pontypool as 16yr old from West Mon in 1904/5 and captained Wales and British Lions. British Lions (Anglo-Welsh) 1908 Australia/NZ and 1910 SA. Joined Newport after 1908 Lions tour - debut Nov 1908 vs Gloucs. 14 Welsh caps (1 as capt): Dec 1908 - Jan 1921 scoring 6t. 1908/9-1909/10: 45 apps / 9t. Returned to Pontypool in 1910. Died 19 March 1951, Llantarnam.
