Born 18 May 1948 in Newport and played for Newport at Ebbw Vale in Dec 24th 1966 (W14-6) immediately he left Monmouth School. He had made his senior debut for Abertillery earlier in 1966/7. Scored 122pts in 18 games in 1966/7. Sensational debut at age of 18 for Wales on April 15th 1967 scoring 19 pts (2pgs, 5c, 1t) vs England (34-21) ? proudest moment. This beat Jerry Shea?s (Newport) Welsh record of 16pts vs England in 1920and Don Clarke?s (NZ) World record of 6 pgs vs British Lions. It equalled Jack Bancroft?s record of 1910. Jarrett ran 50yd for his try and kicked 2 pgs and 5 (out of 6) cons. Played for Wales 10 times (9 at centre) scoring 73pts and was late rep for Lions tour to SA in 1968. Scored 584pts (28t, 86pg, 121c) in 82 games for Newport 1966-1969 and set then club record of 30pts in 54-11 win over Penarth Sept 1968. Helped Newport win Welsh Championship and Wales the Triple Crown / 5 Nations in 1968/9. Left to play RL for Barrow for transfer fee of ?14,000 in Sept 1969. Played for Wales RL and was picked before he had actually signed for Barrow! Suffered first of three strokes in 1973 which ended his playing career. Played cricket for Glamorgan CC as did father Harold. Last game for Newport vs Bath in 1969.
