“NOTES”
“The Wales v. France game at Cardiff tomorrow has attracted the usual large following of supporters from across the channel. Amongst these are quite a few rugby teams engaged in games tonight and tomorrow morning. We have the pleasure in entertaining a Paris University XV tonight, who come to us with a good reputation. They play in the accepted French style, combining speed and good ball handling.”
“In seasons 1964/65 we met them in Paris and we shared 10 points. Vic Perrins got the touch down for us and Ray Cheney converted. On that trip we went on to Gueret and lost 14 points to 8 points. Later this season we journey to France again for a nine day tour, when we meet Paris University and Gueret once more, plus an extra game against La Voulte.”
“Skipper Martin Webber will be playing at Ebbw Vale tonight, where he leads The British Universities against the French Universities, so Brian Perrins will take his place at "prop". Peter Rees will captain the Newport team tonight, which includes Brian Price who has recovered from his leg injury, and young Allan Evans will be at inside-half.”
“Next week we have three home games, Gloucester on Monday, R.A.F., Wednesday and Neath on Saturday. We shall have to ring the changes, spreading the load over the players at our disposal.”
“The ‘Lions’ party has been voted a useful lot with ten Welshmen named, but the absence of any Monmouthshire club representative is a bitter blow The International Board has decided that substitutes for injured players will be permitted in international matches.”
“On April 1st, the Memorial Sevens will take place on this ground, starting at 6.30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale. Stand 5/-, Enclosure 3/6, and Field 2/6. Four clubs will participate, Bristol, Cardiff, Monmouthshire and Newport. On April 20th we are guesting at the Hawick Sevens.”
“After the game tonight, you are invited back to the Rodney Hall to have a little flutter on our horse-racing game. The races are shown on coloured film with a ‘Tote’ in operation.”
