"NOTES"
"WELCOME TO "THE TEAM OF THE YEAR" "
"TO-DAY'S GAME with the Unofficial Welsh Champions and "team of the year" has been looked forward to for a long time, and we would have been better pleased if Newport appeared to-day without defeat. We are certain we are expressing the sentiments of everyone present in saying how sorry we were to learn of their solitary defeat by the London Harlequins. Doubtless the incidence of injuries contributed in no small measure to this, and we wish Roy Burnett a speedy recovery. To-day's game has lost little, if any, glamour by this one defeat, for Newport are still a formidable XV and have yet to be beaten by a Welsh team. Neath "fans" are naturally hoping that such a distinction will fall to the All Blacks. Whatever the result, we know that both teams will "throw the ball about" and will treat what we hope will be a record crowd to good, fast and entertaining football. We congratulate Newport on such a fine record, and express our appreciation for their fine contribution to the grand game of Rugby.2
"CONGRATULATIONS TO REES STEPHENS"
"We offer our sincere and hearty congratulations to Rees upon the honour of being chosen to captain the Barbarians v. Newport last Tuesday."
