From the match programme:-
"Continuing the run of English fixtures, Newport entertain Bath at The Athletic Grounds this afternoon. The West Country side are enjoying a most successful season with 15 victories and 2 draws in their 24 games played. They have not beaten Newport in the postwar series of meetings, but drew 13 points each at Rodney Parade in 1947. Their open football always contributes to entertaining Rugby when the Clubs meet."
"Newport will, of course, be without Ken Jones and R. T. Evans this afternoon, engaged in the Welsh International game against Scotland at Murrayficld. Graham Ross will continue on the right-wing and S. Kimpton comes into the pack. R. D. Owen is again available and returns to the centre position. There is doubt as to the fitness of Tom Sterry, who injured an ankle at Richmond, and should he have to stand down M. Everson, a front row forward from The United, will fill the vacancy, and get his first chance with the premier side."
"With the unprecedented successes of the Newport sides this season, it is interesting to learn, too, of the success of the players of the future - the Newport schoolboys. The Town side have won all their tour games played, and are now interested in the East v. West Wales Trial on February 24th, for which three Newport lads and one reserve are selected. These are John Hughes, son of the former Newport forward, D. J. Hughes and M. Thomas of the High School, and B. A. Wall of St. Julian's High School. A son of another famous old Newport and Welsh International, Ron Herrera, is first reserve in this Trial. On April 21st the Welsh Schoolboys will meet Scotland at Newport Athletic Grounds. It will be a big occasion for the Newport Schoolboys, too, on Wednesday evening next, when the Newport Rugby Supporters Club will present the boys with their Town caps. This pleasantly revived ceremony will take place in the Club Gymnasium."
"On Thursday next, Newport play Oxford University at Rodney Parade and this most attractive fixture will certainly draw a large crowd."
"SUPPORTERS CLUB NEWS"
"On Saturday last the Supporters Club held their Second Annual Outing, this time to Richmond."
"A good number of members travelled and the journey was blessed by excellent weather, good food and accommodation and very good entertainment. Members of the Newport Team spent the evening with us together with some members of the Wasps Team, and our old friend, 'Jimmy' Barnes, really did an excellent job in making a successful evening."
"The news of our coming had been covered very well in the London papers, and 'Exiles' came to the match in good numbers to meet old friends. Amongst this legion, we met George Andrews, the old Newport wing, who sent his best wishes to all friends in Newport."
"On Tuesday next, the Supporters Club have been invited to Whiteheads Club on Cardiff Road and it is hoped that members of the Newport Teams will join us in a Social Evening. Note the date and come along as well."
"On Wednesday next, the members of last year's Town Schoolboys' Team, who had such a good record and provided Wales with two Internationals will be presented with their Town Caps in the Club Gymnasium. Time - 8 p.m."
"We should like as many members as possible to come along to this function, and show their interest in the good work being done to foster our future players. Remember these two dates and make an effort."
