The Times of 29th January 1951 reported:-
"NEWPORT BREAK A RECORD"
"In beating Richmond in the presence of a record crowd for the Richmond ground by three goals and three tries (24 points) to a dropped goal and a penalty goal (six points), the Newport team added another page to the glorious history of the club. This success was the twenty-first in as many matches this winter and, as the last nine fixtures of last season ended in victories, Newport have now won 30 games in succession – a record for the club, beating even the performances of the "Invincibles" of the 1890's and the early 1920's."
"While team-work gave Newport a big advantage and all played splendidly, R. Burnett, the stand-off half, was the outstanding player of the match. He scored one try from a dazzling cut-through and was always a menace to the Richmond back division. K. Jones proved a marked success as a centre. He also scored, the other tries being obtained by J. Lane (two), R. T. Evans and D. A. G. Ackerman. B. Edwards kicked three goals. N. M. Hall, with a dropped goal, and W. E. Keep, a penalty goal, scored for Richmond."
