From the match programme:-
"Newbridge are ever strong challengers, and their visit to Rodney Parade to-day will provide the sternest of tests for the unbeaten Newport side."
"Records of post-war meetings indicate the close nature of these local clashes. Last season, at Newbridge, Newport won by 3 points to nil. In 1948/49 the Clubs drew 3-3 at Rodney Parade, while a season earlier Newbridge had a double success, winning at Newport by 5 points to 3 and the final game of the season at Newbridge by 7 points to nil. This reversed the Newport "double" of 1946/7 season, when victories by 9 points to 6 and 6 points to 4 were recorded. If both sides determine on open football this afternoon, however keen the contest, there is prospect of most entertaining and interesting football."
"With the exception of Peter Davies who is not fully recovered from his injury, Newport have selected their strongest possible side. S. Kimpton is deputising ably in the pack, while the return of Roy Burnett enables R. D. Owen to resume at centre to Ken Jones."
"On Page 3 of this issue we publish the full record, with appearances, of the Newport side to date. It will be noted that Ben Edwards is well on the way to his century of points with 72 - all scored with kicks - and that John Lane, with 8 tries, heads at present, the try scorers. It will be noted, too, that the scoring has been well spread among the team, with forwards crossing for as many as 16 tries. Sterry, Hirst and Ackerman have played in every game to date, while only Welsh Trial appearances have prevented Bryn Williams, W. A. Williams and Ben Edwards from similar record."
"Following the game, Field Tickets for next Saturday's International at Swansea will be on sale to Club Members only, in the Gymnasium (Entrance is through the Social Centre). A Member is eligible to purchase one Ticket on production of his or her Membership Card."
"SUPPORTERS CLUR NEWS"
"The present time is a very hectic period for the Supporters' Committee, as, owing to the International matches being upon us, extra trips have to be organised."
"On Saturday next. Coach Trips will be run to Swansea, leaving Newport aprox 10.30 - 11 a.m. Fare 7/-."
"On Saturday week, we enjoy our Annual Outing to Richmond, and following this we are sending a party to Murrayfield. The train for this game leaves Newport at 7.55 p.m., Friday, 26th January, and leaves Edinburgh at 1.30 a.m. Sunday, January 28th. Reserved Fare 53/-."
"If you have already booked for any of these outings or intend to do so, please go to the Bowls Pavilion after this match to check. Remember, two minutes spent now, can save the Committee hours of work later."
"We had hoped to open the mobile Canteen to-day and serve Refreshments, but this has unfortunately got to be deferred until next week, owing to unforseen circumstances."
"Our greatest thanks are due to the Rugby Committee for placing this Canteen at our disposal, and we are sure that good use will be made of it."
"The Town Caps are now available and will be presented to last year's members of the Town Schoolboys' Rugby Team, at a function which is being arranged."
"While, naturally, very disappointed that more of our players have not caught the Selectors' eyes, we offer our congratulations to our Captain, Vice-Captain and Malcolm Thomas on again being chosen to uphold the prestige of Wales."
