"The Newport Ground has had its first covering of straw of the Winter, and even if the hard frosts, at the time of writing, continue, the playing conditions for to-day's game with Cambridge University should be excellent."
"This is one of Newport's most attractive home matches, and although beaten in last Tuesday's 'Varsity match, this will in no way detract from the popularity of the visit of the Light Blues. As these notes are being compiled the Cambridge team for to-day's game has not been published, but in view of Newport's record it is almost certain to be the strongest available, and with such players as J. V. Smith, the English wing, and Glyn Davies, the Welsh outside-half, in their back division, the standard and attractiveness of the opposition calls for no further comment."
"Newport make two changes in the side which played so splendidly at Bristol last Saturday, and it is of first importance to welcome the return of the Newport captain, Ken Jones, to the side. In making his first appearance of the season, following the British Tour, against Leicester on October 21st, he had the misfortune to break a bone in his hand. This has now mended, to enable him to resume his place on the wing to-day. In the forwards Lyn Davies will re-appear, following a two week's absence through injury, while in the second row of the scrummage G. Keeley will play his first game at home in the absence of L. E. T. Jones. The latter, by the way, is likely to be available again next Saturday."
"An interesting point about the Newport team's record to date is the fact that in the 13 games played this season their line has been crossed only four times, while the last try scored against them was at Blackheath on October 14th. This is especially noteworthy when the calibre of the opposition week by week is noted and surely emphasises credence of "Attack is the Best Defence". "
"The usual Members' Dance will be held in the Social Centre on Boxing Day, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. - at which the Watsonians and Newport teams will attend. Tickets will be on sale, to Club Members at 5/- each, in the Social Centre next week."
