From the match programme:-
"For the last of their five consecutive home games, which have provided such high-calibre Rugby, Newport entertain Abertillery at Rodney Parade this afternoon. The Western Valley Club, who now visit Newport only in alternate years, may not be the strong force we have known them to be, but their endeavours are in the right direction, and they are developing much useful talent. Ernie Coleman, the old Newport forward, is proving a tower of strength in their pack, while their young back, Clive Best, a former Schoolboy International, is a most promising player to note."
"Newport have selected the identical side which defeated Cardiff last Saturday. The team now has the great record of 11 victories in their eleven games played, and while they continue in the spirit they have so firmly adopted the unbeaten record, while it lasts, need not become a burden."
"Full details of the Newport records to date are on Page 3 of this issue, and it will be noted that both the United and Extras' XV.s also retain unbeaten records. We wish to draw the special attention of Supporters to the United's home game next Saturday against a side drawn from the Newport and District Junior Rugby Union. Complete proceeds of the match go to the latter, who are making the greatest possible efforts for Junior Rugby in the District. This game will not only be a fillip to the Union, but will also provide an opportunity to judge the Monmouthshire talent, which is being fostered so ably, and as such is deserving of the widest support."
"Club members are advised that applications can now be received for Stand Tickets for the English Rugby Union's matches at Twickenham on 24th February and March 17th against France and Scotland respectively. Cost of Tickets will now be 15/- plus the usual booking fee of 6d. per ticket. Incidentally, the Welsh Union have followed suit in the price of Stand Tickets for this season's Internationals at Swansea and Cardiff."
"The Newport Club are going ahead with arrangements for out of season Seven-a-side Tournament which it is proposed to hold on The Athletic Grounds on Saturday, May 5th, 1951. The Club is also sponsoring among Clubs in Wales the idea of a National Seven-a-side Tournament for the last playing Saturday of each season. This idea may take some years to develop, and much may be accomplished in this direction from this season's initial Club effort."
