From the match programme:-
"Meetings between Cardiff and Newport invariably provide points of special significance, and to-day's game at The Athletic Grounds is certainly no exception. Firstly, Cardiff will be in 'full cry' to break Newport's fine record of 10 victories in their ten matches played this season. Secondly, Newport will be all out to prove that their two successive wins at The Arms Park - following a long series of postwar reverses in meetings between the Clubs - can be repeated against a Cardiff side at full strength. This can prove to be a very great game to-day, even with full allowance being made for the traditional keenness of the encounter. Both teams now are capable of playing brilliant rugby, and with open, attacking play the assured policy of each side, in normal conditions and irrespective of the result, one cannot but anticipate a grand match."
"Each side, as selected, will lack the services of an outstanding Touring Party member Ken Jones, the Newport Captain, is still nursing an injured hand - happily progressing well - while W. B. Cleaver, Captain-elect of Cardiff, has announced his retirement from the game. Cleaver retires in full honour and the Newport Club and Supporters will readily pay tribute, to a fine footballer whose skill and ability in the post-war era have oft been so readily acclaimed at Rodney Parade. Welsh football will be the poorer for his going out of the game."
"Newport will field what is now regarded as their usual side, with the three Welsh Trialists, R. Burnett, B. Williams and Ben Edwards, back in the side, and R. Hughes again preferred at full-back."
"Cardiff, selected at full strength, will include Tourists Bleddyn Williams and Jack Matthews in the threequarters, Rex Willis at inside-half and Cliff Davies in the pack. At outside half, Gwyn Llewellyn, who has been playing in the centre, and appeared in that position in last Saturday's Welsh Trial, takes the place of young Cliff Morgan, who is on the injured list. H. Morris, one of the successes of that Trial plays on the right wing."
"Players and Club members are reminded that the Home Unions' new Instructional Film, "Rugby Union Football," will be shown in the Club Gymnasium at 8 o'clock next Wednesday evening, November 15th. This is a Sound Film in three parts, which runs for approximately 55 minutes."
