From the match programme:-
"For their third consecutive home game of the new season, Newport entertain Neath at the Athletic Grounds this afternoon, and the capabilities of the Newport team who have opened with such convincing victories over Penarth and Bristol will, as usual, be sternly tested indeed by the "All, Blacks." Referee Ivor David, who controlled the game at Newport last Saturday, described Neath as having a young, and most promising side this season, with two very good wing three-quarters and a couple of forwards of whom he expected to hear much. The fact that Neath could only draw at home to Ebbw Vale a week ago should be viewed from the angle that this Monmouthshire side may well emulate the rise to fame of Maesteg last season. Neath drew at Newport, 3 points each, last year, while Newport gained one of their rare victories at The Gnoll later in the season by 5 points to 3 points."
"The selected Newport side for to-day's game shows two changes from the team that defeated Bristol last Saturday. John Lane is preferred to Deryck Jones on the left wing, while in the forwards, D. G. Ackerman moves to the open side of the back-row in place of H. I. Tovey, and Harold Davies, from the United, takes over the other wing-forward berth."
"British Railways are running an attractive Excursion to Swansea for Newport's game at St. Helen's next Saturday. Trains depart at 10 a.m., 11.42 a.m., and 12.38 p.m., and passengers may return by any train from Swansea that day. The return fare is 7/3d. (children under 14, half-fare) and, in conjunction with the Supporters' Club, Newport should be assured of a big following for this important match."
"Attention has been drawn to the fact that on the first two Saturdays of the season the B.B.C. have omitted to broadcast the results of Newport's matches in the Sports News, following the six o'clock news. The Newport Committee have drawn the attention of the B.B.C. to the omission. See if the result of to-day's game is broadcast this evening."
"As a result of the collection at the opening match with Penarth, the sum of £25 has been donated to the Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance and S.S.A.F.A. The Newport Committee much appreciates this generous response of supporters, which has meant that these worthy organisations still benefit, despite the cancellation of the Final Trial match."
