The Times of 17th April 1923 reported:-
"Newport beat Pill Harriers before 3,000 spectators at Newport yesterday by one goal, one dropped goal, and four tries (21 points) to nothing."
"Wetter dropped the goal for Newport early in the match, and, before half-time, Stock had added an unconverted try. After the interval, Harold Davies scored a try after a fine run and Baker converted it. Macpherson next scored at the end of a fine rush by the forwards, and a clever opening by J. Wetter enabled Harold Davies again to score. Finally Stock got over again from an opening by Davies."
