On 12th December 1892 the Birmingham Daily Post reported:-
"NEWPORT v. MOSELEY.- At Newport, before two thousand spectators, in wet weather. The Moseley forwards played a good game. The home combination, however, was too good, Newport in the first half scoring 2 goals and 1 try to Moseley 0. In the second half the home team increased their lead, Arthur Gould scoring three times, twice covering more than half the length of the field. The Moseley forwards made a splendid rush, scoring a try; but the game ended in a win for Newport by 4 goals and 3 tries to 1 try."
