Just four days after the sacking of coach Paul Evans and team manager Alex Laurie, Newport racked up an impressive 62pts to erase the memories of their last Welsh cup encounter and give new coach Steve Jones a great start. Tries from Owain Thomas, Jason Hewlett and Mark Workman and 7 pts from Gareth Rees gave Newport a 22pt lead at the interval.
