Llandovery,   21 November 1987
Newport backs scored 8 of the 9 tries in their 41-6 thrashing of the West Wales champions, though the game was won by a tremendous forward effort by the Newport pack. Such was the dominance in the scrum that Tony Coombes scored 3 second half tries. The game was effectively over by the 20th min with Newport leading 11-0 and winning 14 rucks and mauls without reply. The backs played well on the day but they had a stream of possession and were always going forward, the only blemish was the miserable success rate with goal kicking with John Callard being the chief culprit.
