Laugharne,   15 November 1986
This was a thrilling end-to-end game which had the spectators on the edge of their seats with Newport finally worthy 27-17 winners, but the home supporters would have been proud of the way their team had fought every inch of the way. Laugharne had high hopes of an upset and their supporters went into early celebrations when prop John Brace scored to put them ahead. Newport's superb scrummaging was a problem that Laugharne never managed to cope with. Glen George scored two excellent tries and Jason White and Marc Batten showed their pace to score two second half tries. Newport were always in command and were well worth victory in this first round game.
