St Peters,   20 November 1982
After being ahead 18-0 at half-time, Newport produced a second-half display wich was bitterly disappointing , and would have cost them dearly against stronger opposition. On this occasion however, Newport had the cushion provided by three excellent first half tries which should have been the encouragement to open out in the second half . Instead they opted to keep the game grimly tight, concentrating largely on the boot and consequently they did not add to their total until nine mins from time when Chris Pook grabbed a fourth try.
The first half tries, two for John Churchill, and one for David Joes showed that they could comfortably have outrun St Peters but their subsequent over rigid tactical approach showed that this was a lesson they failed to learn.
